* UPDATE: For the kids who like dance music and Chillin' Music.

"This Saturday night (September 5) there's a super-cool party happening at The Peacock Room in Orlando. Local deep house label Chillin Music is having its 5 year anniversary party and to mark the occasion they're flying recent collaborator Pezzner in from Seattle. I'm not sure if you know about Pezzner, one half of eccentric house music duo Jacob London, but he's one of my favorite working producers. His recent efforts for labels like Om Records, Freerange, and Urban Torque are inspirational, making him one of the few that I'll always check when seeing his name attached to a track. Rest assured you will hear some fantastic, forward-thinking house music playing in his set this Saturday ... sounds that should please the brain as well as the feet. I'm psyched.

I'm also psyched that I, Mr. Q-Burns Abstract Message, will be playing my own crazy tunes beforehand. And Chillin Music boss Rob Slac will be on hand for his own opening DJ set. Sweet." -- original message sent via Q-Burn's Abstract Message

“By the time the Yeah Yeah Yeahs released their 2003 full-length debut, Fever to Tell, the New York City trio already had indie-rock stardom in the bag. Formed in 2000 by art-student-turned-punk-rock frontwoman Karen O, guitarist Nick Zinner and drummer Brian Chase, the young band gathered buzz fast and furiously with its first EP and opening for acts like the Strokes and the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion both throughout the States and across Europe. Interscope signed the band, and Fever t” -- http://2009.aclfestival.com/band/yeah-yeah-yeahs

Also on that Friday is Andrew Bird, Blitzen Trapper, Medeski Martin & Wood, Thievery Corporation, School of Seven Bells, and Robyn Hitchcock and the Venus 3.

ACL After Shows

I found out that tickets for the ACL Festival 2009 were sold out. No single-day passes, no VIP 3-day (as if I could afford), or General Admission. I’m thinking it was the smart thing to buy early. Because of that thinking, I decided to buy the Aftershow tickets (Grizzly Bear & !!!) as well. This is turning out to be the most expensive concert i’ve ever paid for : ) If you include plane ticket, 3 day pass, and 2 aftershow events...that adds up to wicked good time!

* Note: As of Aug. 24, 2009 there’s still Aftershow tickets available on the ACL Festival website.

“The music of ISIS is a suitable metaphor for their 12-year career: patient, meticulous, fraught with tensionand gradually building towards an apex of seismic proportions. From the hypnotically bludgeoning down-tuned riffs of their early years to the gracefully sprawling passages on their pivotal sophomore album Oceanic and continuing through the intricate rhythmic textures and increased melody of 2006's In The Absence of Truth, ISIS have successfully navigated the process of growing and evolving without disavowing their initial vision.” -- www.thesocial.org

Kraak & Smaak
Doors at 9:00PM, $10.00, 18 and up. Tickets available at the Social Box Office, the door, and Ticketmaster locations.

KraajK & Smaak has quickly become one of the hottest live properties in electronic music. Original founding members Oscar De Jong, Mark Kneppers & Wim Plug are joined by the additional live band members of Andre Kemp (drummer), Rose Spearman (vocalist), Sebastian van der berg (MC) and Marc Baronner (bass). With keyboards, FX and percussion played by the band themselves, they bring their distinct brand of funk to the dance floor.

Ratatat
Presented by Foundation & House of Blues. $15.25 adv/ $18.25 day of show. Doors at 8pm/9 pm show.
"Ratatat fuse hip hop beats with spectacular acrobatic guitar riffs as well as a satisfying amount of the blips and glips of electronica. And they do it well."

* The quote above came from the flyer advert, but i'm not sure what "blips and glips" means? I'm guessing "beeps and blips" is what they intended to say.

April 14, 2009
Digable Planets (SHOW CANCELLED)
plus guests Common Market & DJ BMF (8th Dim./The Social)
Doors at 9:00PM, $15.00, 18 and up.

* I'm disappointed in the cancellation. I saw Digable Planets perform their reunion tour and though, "they're still on point". Blowout Comb was one of those albums that realigned my thoughts about hip hop music vs. commercial rap (aka crap).

April 17, 2009

Event: Milk Shake

Sunday, March 22, 2009. Milk Shake was hosted by Covert, Beta, Etoile, DropShop, Sportstown Billiards, Bold Hype, and Alchemy. The location was the back parking lot of 2428 E. Robinson Street, Orlando, FL. This was a block party of music, art, and vegan hotdogs. Covert, Beta, and Etolie offered clearance sales on men's and women's clothing & accessories. Visual artist/dj Andrew Spear showcased his new mural for everyone. Local dj's and bands took the stage (actually a parking space) to keep the vibe flowing. Around 2:30 PM, I watched in agony as hungry contestants completed the Vegan Hot Dog Eating Contest. And yes, someone did puke within the twelve-minutes of the eat-off. Unfortunately, I never found out who won. Those who went inside the Covert store, may have met the Obey (Shepard Fairey) reps from Atlanta. I was desperate to buy new threads, but I decided to pre-order from the new catalog instead. Around 6 PM, the rain ensued and killed the sound for a while. I didn't stay for the last hours, so i missed out on DaVinci & Beef Wellington's performances. Sorry guys.
