Social Networks

I was at a party the other night and someone asked if i was on Facebook. I explained, i once had an account but left Facebook because i was tired of updating my status messages. Other reasons included escaping people i really didn’t want to associate with and because i didn’t want anyone asking me about work stuff. That said, i’m not against social networks by any means. In fact, the one social site i’m still involved with is Last.fm. Not like there’s that much action going on, but i’ve gotten a lot of good information from the community about music and bands. Also, the site is well designed and constantly being improved. I pay for the upgraded membership, which isn’t required, but would be if i want to escape the commercialism. You can check out my profile for recently listened tracks, my top artists & tracks, and any upcoming music events.

Ratatat

ratatat

The other day i was corrected on the pronunciation of the band Ratatat. I pronounce the band-name as “rat-a-tat” but was told it was “rat-at-at”. I wasn’t sure about that pronunciation because rat-at-at would not be a real word. I checked online but had a hard time finding info on Ratatat’s website or on Wikipedia. Then i realized if it were a real word, then it should be in the dictionary. Low and behold, it was what i thought. Merriam-Webster says that ratatat is defined as “a rapid succession of knocking, tapping, or cracking sounds”. In my opinion, the word ratatat is imitative to the band’s sound if you were to focus on the percussion. But what do i know? Maybe it’s whatever they want it to be, kinda like the !!! (which can be chk chk chk or however one wants to pronounce it).

Main Entry:rat–a–tat
Pronunciation:\ˈra-tə-ˌtat\
Function:noun
Etymology:imitative
Date:1681

Directors List

My updated list of favorite directors is now at 25. Obviously there’s more directors in the industry, but these artists are on the top of my list. I may not agree with every movie they’ve made and you may not agree with the name being on the list at all. The list is in no particular order, but i do have one all time: Stanley Kubrick. I chose Mr. Kubrick cause he never made a bad movie. You can’t count A.I. (Artificial Intelligence) cause it wasn’t completed by Kurbrick. In my opinion, Spielberg ruined the movie.
