Twin Shadow Joins 4AD
09/22/10 01:40
Twin Shadow joins 4AD records. The debut album “Forget” will be re-released on November 15, 2010 on 4AD. I imagine Twin Shadow is about to blow up! Terrible Records released Forget back on August 28, 2010. This time around, i’m sure Twin Shadow will get the proper exposure. I don’t mind seeing an up-and-coming artist on a small indie-label, but i guess success is knocking on Mr. Lewis Jr’s door.
4AD:
“4AD introduces Twin Shadow, the latest addition to the 30 year-old label, rubbing shoulders alongside the likes of Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti, Bon Iver, Deerhunter and The National. Initially discovered by Grizzly Bear's Chris Taylor, 4AD will release the debut album Forget on November 15th.
Twin Shadow is the nom de plume of George Lewis Jr. The troubled son of a hairdresser and a "teacher who lived many lives" his formative years were spent in suburban Florida. Later, George escaped and travelled north to New York, where the slow gestation of Forget took place over a duration of many months in his Brooklyn apartment. Impressed by the unknown Twin Shadow, Chris Taylor lent his considerable talents as a co-producer, getting behind the dials to add a final flourish to the eleven tracks that would become Forget.
Talking about his debut album, George Lewis Jr. remarks, "I can say without shyness, Forget was and is a product of the hardest work I've ever put into anything. Please listen closely to the last song [title track 'Forget'] on the record, as I wrote it for you."
Commenting on signing to 4AD, Twin Shadow says, "Four or five months ago I was watching Lost Highway with a beautiful Swedish girl, we both fell in love with This Mortal Coil's cover of Tim Buckley's 'Song To The Siren'. I remember thinking, "Man I wish I had seen that band, I wish I had been around at that time, I feel like my record belongs in that family." ...Here I am joining that family, for which I couldn't be happier.”

Upcoming Concerts in Orlando
09/19/10 21:02
I’ve been impressed the number of good shows coming to Orlando, Florida. Us southerners often get bypassed when big tours come through. But when i thought about the shows i’ve seen lately and the upcoming concerts, i realized we’re doing pretty good. We’re not Atlanta GA or Austin TX, but close enough for now.
I recently saw Twin Sister, Memoryhouse, MillionYoung, Crystal Castles & Bear in Heaven. The upcoming shows i’m looking forward to includes: Phantogram (<3 Sarah Barthel = hot), Sleigh Bells & LCD Soundsystem (I could care less about LCD, boring), The National, Yeasayer & Washed Out, Vampire Weekend & Beach House (one of my favorite bands at the moment). Unfortunately, I missed The Drums & Surfer Blood show. Maybe next time.

American Apparel's Financial Situation
09/15/10 18:58
Say it ain’t so! Bloomberg BusinessWeek reports that American Apparel faces mounting financial debt and may go into bankruptcy. One could say i’m an admirer of American Apparel clothing because most of my T-shirts are made by American Apparel. For me it’s not about the racy-ads and hip style, it’s about the fine-jersey. No other T-Shirt fits correctly and feels so good to me. If you’ve experienced the muggy-heat of Florida, then you’d know a beefy T-shirt (like Hanes) is not what you’d want to be wearing! Most T-shirt companies can’t even get their sizes right. So it would be a shame to see American Apparel vanish. And yes, i do enjoy their sexy ads and unique style.
Terrible Records
09/15/10 13:35
I’ve been listening to Class Actress & Twin Shadow on iTunes for weeks straight. Couldn’t get enough, so i visited the home website of Terrible Records to find out more. LOL, check out the About page!
Christ Taylor: “Aside from his many musical talents, he is a force to be reckoned with in the kitchen. Also, he is accomplished hair-stylist.”
Ethan Silverman: “Ethan Silverman owns a few really sweet metal shirts.”
* Note-to-self: Order the Arthur Russell/ Can’t - 7” before it’s too late.

HTML5
09/09/10 13:22
I’ve finally moved from (X)HTML towards HTML5. I’ve scripted in XHTML since my senior class in college, but after reading Jeremy Keith’s HTML5 For Web Designers, & Mark Pilgram’s HTML5: Up and Running, i’m certain i’ll need to move with HTML5 (note: there’s no space after HTML & the 5). Just because HTML5 doesn’t get finalized until 2012, doesn’t mean the browsers (developers) aren’t already using it. Especially with the web apps and mobile devices.
Neu's 4th Album
09/09/10 11:44
Neu!’s ’86 album is available now on Bleep & iTunes. I never knew about the incomplete fourth-album, until now. Thirteen songs included in the digital download version. Here’s the info:
NEU! '86
(Gronland Records)
The enigmatic, infamous fourth album from Neu! finally sees it's first, official release. Following the death of drummer, Klaus Dinger, the surving member of the band, Michael Rother, lifted his sanction to never release this album. With the blessing of Dinger's long-term partner, and manager of his estate, Rother returned to the masters (then known as the elusive 'Neu! 4' album) to deliver this part-remixed/part-remastered body of work. A perfect coda to the duo's highly influential career.

Cous

I don’t know who’s bigger, Cous (aka Cootie) my new adopted cat or Johnny my old cat. I think Johnny had a thicker coat of fur then Cous.

Quick site update, I changed the
index.html to point to the blog page. So when you type the URL: http://chairmanhao.com, you should arrive directly to the blog page instead. I’m not sure why i bothered with a ‘splash’ page. Those web-pages usually annoy me too, so i’ve decided to relieve visitors of an extra mouse-click and load right to the content. Less clickage = Good!Sleigh Bells

Sleigh Bells
& LCD Soundsystem
Hard Rock Live - Orlando
Tue, October 5, 2010
8:00 pm
$32 - $37
Foundation & Hard Rock Live
Location:
Hard Rock Live
6050 Universal Blvd
Orlando FL 32819
United States
Anyone whose willing to pay for an LCD Soundsystem concert would probably dish out the thirty-two dollars for this Hard Rock/Foundation event. I however, couldn’t do that. Not for LCD Soundsystem. For Sleigh Bells possibly, but if they we’re the headliners and another band was the opening-act.
Crystal Castles
09/03/10 00:01
Crystal Castles are performing live at Firestone (Orlando, FL) on September 9, 2010. Bear in Heaven and our local dj, Diddles are opening the event. Doors are at 8 PM. Purchase tickets from Park Ave. CD’s or Firestone Live, and you’d save some money (vs. Ticketmaster fees). I didn’t realize it was “all ages” event.
* update: i thought all performances were great, but once again Firestone ruined the sound. Why does Firestone think LOUD is good? Shame we couldn’t hear Alice Glass.
